The Science of Creating Great Presentations – A Hands-On Workshop

As marketers, we are expected to help our firms create and produce presentations. We also are required to produce presentations to sell our ideas and educate our firms. This hands-on workshop covers the fundamentals of creating great, easy to comprehend presentations. The materials draws on the most current information from:

  • Cognitive science and educational design
  • User experience design
  • Industry best practices

The presentation will cover:

How to strip your slides of "chart junk" and reduce "cognitive load"

As an audience member, how many slides have you seen where you don’t know where to look? It can make your brain work really hard - literally. We'll show you how to strip your slides of all but elements that reinforce your message.

How to have your visuals reinforce what you are saying

As an audience member, how may time have you zoned out and what's on the screen gives you no clue as to what the person is talking about?

How to create presentations that can be left behind to sell when you aren't there

It happens all the time! You ask for the slides, but you can't get the point of the slides from the visuals alone.

How to create presentations that appeal to the logical

While TED Talks are great for inspiring people, most of the time we present for businesses and we need to appeal to logic. We'll cover techniques that management consultants use.

How to use the right charts

How often do people put up charts and they don't clarify anything? We'll go over the four chart types and when to use each one depending upon your point.

How to use images

How often are visuals added as an afterthought and don't really add to the message? We'll talk about how and when to use images to evoke and emotional reaction.

The session includes a makeover of audience submitted PowerPoint designs as well as hands-on exercises.
